The lottery is labeled as DV-2026 because the selected participants who successfully complete the entire process will be issued green cards during the year 2026. When Will the Results of the 2025 Green Card Lottery Be Announced
The lottery year designation is based on the fiscal year in which visas are issued. It may be a bit confusing at first, but the table below will clarify everything.

Check the Status of Your Entry in the U.S. Green Card Lottery
The U.S. government never sends lottery results to participants. No emails, text messages, or phone calls are made, and local embassies do not have access to the results. The results are available exclusively on the official lottery website.
Official lottery results can be found only on the government-operated website dvprogram.state.gov. To check your entry status, you need the 16-character Confirmation Number that was generated for you in the fall after you submitted your registration. The code format looks like this: 20251O0DZWY3DOV0.
If you’ve lost your number, go to the page mentioned above and click Check Status » Continue » Forgot Confirmation Number. To recover access, you only need to know your first and last name, date of birth, and the email address used in your application.
❌ You Were Not Selected
If you were not selected this year, the website will display the message: “Based on the information provided, the Entry HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED for further processing for the Electronic Diversity Visa program at this time”.
Do not delete your Confirmation Number and continue checking your status until the end of September 2026. For instance, in 2011 a technical error caused the status for some participants to change after it was corrected.

If you were lucky in the lottery, you will see a page outlining the next steps.
Most important information: Don’t celebrate too early. Being selected in the lottery does not automatically guarantee a green card; it only qualifies you to move on to the next stage, which may lead to receiving one. In the end, only about 45–55% of those selected actually obtain a green card.

At the time the DV-2026 results are announced, it is uncertain—due to current events in the U.S.—whether the lottery will continue in the fall. If it does, entries will likely be accepted in the fall of 2025.
Do not fill out any applications outside of this timeframe or on unofficial websites. There are dozens of sites pretending to be official government sources. In reality, these are operated by individuals who profit from false promises and simply resubmit your registration.
They often claim to boost your chances of being selected, pose as various Visa Agents, use trustworthy-looking websites and badges. While Google frequently penalizes such sites, they may still appear in ads or on social media.
The only official website for the U.S. Green Card Lottery is dvprogram.state.gov.
