Big Apple Coaster in Las Vegas – Tickets, Height & My Review

Petr Novák

There are around six thousand hotels in Las Vegas with a capacity of around 150,000 beds. So anyone who wants to thrive has to differentiate themselves to attract guests. They have fountains at the Bellagio, adrenaline rides on the roof of the The STRAT tower, and at the New York, New York, they’ve built the backdrop for the city that never sleeps. They include a roller coaster that reaches speeds of up to 67 mph108 km/h and has the longest descent at 144 ft44 m. Who’s afraid, go to Bellagio!

History, Height and Drop Height on the Big Apple Coaster

The coaster has been in operation since 1997, and has changed several names in its lifetime. When it opened, it was first called Manhattan Express, after which it took on the very sophisticated name “The Roller Coaster” in 2007. The most recent change so far occurred in 2015, since when it has been known as “The Big Apple Coaster”.

The Big Apple Coaster is reminiscent of New York in every way. The cars look like the legendary yellow cabs, the coaster is accessed from a replica subway station, and if you manage to follow the surrounding buildings during the ride, you’ll recognize Manhattan’s skyscrapers.

The top speed on the roller coaster is 67 mph108 km/h, the deepest descent is 144 ft44 m, and you’ll experience the same corkscrew as fighter pilots on one section of the coaster. For the most adrenaline-pumping roller coasters at a park like Six Flags, while The Big Apple Coaster loses in intensity of experience, it still offers an enjoyable experience on a hot day.

  2. Fun Facts About the Big Apple Coaster

Construction of the roller coaster cost $25,000,000 in 1997 prices. Check out the video of the roller coaster ride.

Las Vegas is crazy, so it’s no surprise that at one time a New York, New York hotel offered roller coaster wedding ceremonies. The item was a standard part of the price list. A wedding ceremony in the morning slot cost $600. The evening slot with a lit up Las Vegas skyline was more attractive, you could hit it for $700.

Today, the hotel no longer offers roller coaster weddings in Las Vegas. It’s possible that the rushing carriage ceremony was too boring for local standards.

  3. What You Need to Know Before Visiting

🗺️ Location of Big Apple Coaster

The Big Apple Coaster is located right on the Strip next to the Hotel New York, New York. You can’t miss it from a distance; a replica of the Statue of Liberty may be a hallmark.

Near the hotel is the Tropicana @ Las Vegas (W) bus stop.

    🕔 Hours of Operation

The coaster is open daily in good weather, from Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 23:00 and from Friday to Sunday from 11:00 to midnight. Children over 137 cm can ride the roller coaster.

    🎟️ Big Apple Coaster Tickets

Ticket price per ride is $26, and does not change throughout the day. Discounted children’s tickets are not offered. I last updated this information on May 7, 2024.

You can buy your ticket online for any day and you can come anytime during the day, but no later than 30 minutes before closing.

🎫 Free Roller Coaster Entry With Go City Pass Las Vegas

You can visit the Big Apple Coaster for free if you buy a Go City Pass Las Vegas. It’s sold in a 2-5 day option, during which time you can visit dozens of different attractions in Las Vegas at no additional cost.

In addition to the roller coaster, these include a helicopter tour, the High Roller Ferris Wheel, or admission to a replica of the Eiffel Tower. If you plan your program well, you can save hundreds of dollars in 4 days.

⭐ My Big Apple Coaster Review

The Big Apple Coaster was a nice addition to the day. Since we were there in the middle of the week, we didn’t even wait in the lines, which are longest from Friday to Sunday. It’s a bit plain compared to the rides I’ve been on at Six Flags, but again, you can take advantage of its availability in Vegas.

You have to take all your stuff out of your pockets and store it in a locked locker along with your backpack before getting on the cart. Makes sense, your stuff would fall out during the ride. My complaint is the price of the roller coaster ticket, which you ride for less than three minutes. You can save money by buying the aforementioned Go Pass Las Vegas, which lets you go on the coaster once for free.
